Why language matters more than itinerary

A guide working in their second-best language defaults to script. The history-book version of Hagia Sophia, the rehearsed joke at the Grand Bazaar, the same Bosphorus sentence delivered to every group since 2017.

A guide in their working language has range. They notice your client is German and switches to a Karl May reference. They pick up that the family is Russian and Orthodox, and the route through Hagia Irene takes on a different weight. The same monument becomes a different story.

We staff guides to language first, then to specialisation. Every guide on the roster has demonstrable fluency, not phrasebook competence.

Working languages

English

Standard for UK, Irish, Dutch, Scandinavian and mixed-European groups. Guide pool of 28 licensed professionals.

German

For German, Austrian and Swiss agencies. Guide pool of 11 - most trained in Germany or with multi-year residency.

Russian

For Russian, Belarusian, Kazakh and Ukrainian agency clients. Guide pool of 9, including two with art-history specialisations.

Turkish

For domestic agency partners and bilingual heritage travellers. Full TURSAB-licensed coverage.

  • Briefing protocol - every guide reads a per-booking brief 24h before pickup
  • Client-feedback gate - guides below 4.6/5 trailing-thirty average are paused for retraining

Special requests we hear monthly

We do not advertise it, but we maintain a stand-by guide list for less-common pairings: Russian + art history, German + Byzantine churches, English + Sephardic Istanbul. If your client has a niche, ask.
